establishing interim arrangements for fishing for herring in the North Sea, adopted provisionally pending the fixing of TACs and quotas for 1984

THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES,

Having regard to the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community,

Having regard to Council Regulation (EEC) No 170/83 of 25 January 1983 establishing a Community system for the conservation and management of fishery resources (1), and in particular Article 3, 4 and 11 thereof.

Having regard to the proposal from the Commission,

Whereas interim arrangements for fishing for herring in the North Sea in the period from 1 January 1984 to 31 May 1984 should be adopted in conformity with the result of consultations with Norway,

HAS ADOPTED THIS REGULATION:

Article 1_

1. The allocation among the Member States for the period from 1 January 1984 to 31 May 1984 of the provisional share of herring available to the Community in the North Sea and eastern English Channel is shown at Annex.

2. The total Community catch in ICES divisions IVa and IVb in the period referred to in paragraph 1 shall not exceed 35 000 tonnes.

3. Each Member State shall report to the Commission its landings of herring, distinguishing between ICES divisions IVa, IVb and IVc/VIId, and starting with landings for the period from 1 to 10 January 1984 and weekly thereafter.

Article 2

This Regulation shall enter into force on the day of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities.

It shall apply from 1 January 1984.    -

This Regulation shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.
