The Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the European Union (NL PermRep) promotes the Dutch interests in the European Union (EU). Our team consists of people from practically all ministries and other branches of the Dutch government, united in one building and one organisation in Brussels.
The staff of the Permanent Representation negotiates and lobbies on behalf of the Netherlands in the EU. This implies that they are, each in his/her own specific field of expertise, is in daily contact with the representatives of other EU Member States, as well as the European Commission1 and the European Parliament2.
- 1.The European Commission is the executive body of the EU and runs its day-to-day business. It is made up of the College of Commissioners, 27 European Commissioners, one for each member state, who are each responsible for one or several policy areas. In addition, the 'Commission' also refers to the entire administrative body that supports the Commissioners, consisting of the Directorates-General and the Services.
- 2.The European Parliament is the EU's law-making body. It is directly elected by EU voters every 5 years.
