LI President Hans van Baalen: African Presidents should support Ouattara and fly with him to Abidjan - Main contents
After discussing the deterioration of the situation in Cote d'Ivoire with the President of Senegal Abdoulaye Wade, I launch a new demand for Gbagbo to leave the power immediately. The decisions of ECOWAS, the AU and the UN must be applied without further delay. The panel set up by the AU meeting, which is taking place in Addis Ababa, should confirm the legitimacy of President Ouattara and his government and invite officials loyal until now to Gbagbo to join a national unity Cabinet led by President Ouattara. I call on the 5 African Presidents-members of the AU Panel to fly together with President Ouattara to Abidjan to ensure he is able to land in the country of which he is President.
I am sending a message to the liberal government of Senegal and the government of Burkina Faso with liberal participation to formally initiate proceedings within ECOWAS, with the AU Panel and in front of ICC to investigate the crimes against humanity committed by the former President of Cote d'Ivoire Laurent Gbagbo and the forces under his command.
