LI Bureau Meets with Prominent Liberals in Sofia

Coinciding with the 8th National Congress of MRF (LI full-member) and upon the invitation of LI Bureau Member Dr. Chakarov, the LI leadership met in Sofia, Bulgaria where members on the Bureau discussed the current and future prospects of liberalism in South-East Europe with prominent liberal leaders from the region such as the former Prime Minister of Bulgaria and Heir to the Bulgarian Throne His Excellency King Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (NMSP, LI full-member) and the first democratically elected President of the Republic and LI Patron Dr. Zhelyu Zhelev.

The meeting was also attended by Graham Watson MEP ALDE Party President; Jacob Rasmussen ALDE Party Secretary General, Rene Klaff, FNF Regional Director; Cristian David, Minister of the Diaspora and former LI Bureau Member (PNL Romania, LI full-member) Andrej Zernovski MP, the leader of LDP Macedonia (LI full-member); Dusan Gamser, the international officer of LDP Serbia (LI observer member).

The strongest message of the meeting was conveyed by King Simeon II who stressed that “the completion of the South-East European integration in the EU is one of the greatest remaining tasks as we should not allow for islands of isolation.” LI President Hans Van Baalen MEP held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, His Excellency Rosen Plevneliev.
