Background politicians in the European Parliament - Main contents

Do political parties send their most experienced politicians to European Parliament? Or do they keep them in national parliaments?

Dutch European election candidates have relatively little political experience. Belgian and Luxembourg MEP's, on the other hand, are often political heavyweights.

Researchers at the Faculty of Law of Leiden University, the Montesquieu Institute, and the Parliamentary Documentation Centre in The Hague analysed the political experience of 300 European Parliament candidates in 11 member states.
