Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (GROW)

This directorate-general (DG) is responsible for policies concerning the internal market, industry and small and medium enterprises. The directorate-general is also involved in the Copernicus and Galileo space programmes of the EU.

The aim of the DG is to create smart, sustainable and inclusive economic growth. The DG listed the following key priorities:

  • completing the internal market for goods and services
  • supporting initiatives that make the European economy more sustainable and innovative
  • implementing industrial and sectoral policies
  • to remove administrative burdens for small and medium enterprises, and to foster better access to finance for SME's
  • to safeguard intellectual property rights in collusion with stimulating innovation
  • to further develop the European space programmes

On January 1st 2015 DG Grow replaced the directorate-general Enterprise and Industry to emphasize the shift towards policies specifically aimed at stimulating small and medium enterprises.
