Join me next Monday 27 April at 14:00 for my first live Twitter chat. Questions to #ITS2015Chat
On Friday, I will open a conference here in Brussels on the development and creation of Intelligent Transport Systems — or ITS for short. Various groups and individuals with an interest in the subject will gather to discuss the challenges facing us, as we attempt to provide an improved transport network to benefit both business and citizens.
Our goal in ITS is to try to connect our transport network better, to bring about a safer, cheaper and more environmentally friendly mobility sector. However ITS does not just require the transport sector to get on board — we need to co-operate across sectors such as telecommunications and commerce. We need to build the appropriate infrastructure so that new services such as a single website for all modes of travel within the EU becomes a possibility. With ITS driverless cars can become a reality, there can be better management of planes in the sky, and our existing transport infrastructure could be used more cleverly, to maximise the return on investment.
Following our discussions on Friday, next Monday the 27th of April at 14:00, I will be taking part in my first live Twitter chat as EU Transport Commissioner. If you have any questions you would like to put to me on the subject, tweet them using #ITS2015Chat. No matter where you are, I look forward to hearing from you and chatting to you online next week.
