Mission to Nepal (30/4 - 2/5, 2015) - Main contents
The people of Nepal are not alone. EU solidarity is strong and tangible. It is longterm.
During the three days I spent in Kathmandu, I met families who lost everything. I talked with survivors. I saw children traumatised by this tragedy. On behalf of all Europeans, I expressed to them, in the strongest terms, that the people of Nepal are not alone. That EU solidarity is strong and tangible. We will be there for as long as it takes. I also witnessed first-hand the resilience of the Nepali people. I saw their strong courage and determination to rebuild their country. I saw brave local and international relief teams and humanitarian workers. I met with authorities and partners. Together with Valerie Amos. And discussed how Europe can continue its help. In the most effective and efficient way possible. During my mission, I also sat down with European search and rescue teams. The work they are doing it's truly admirable. They were exhausted from working around the clock to save lives. Sometimes risking their own lives. They are true heroes!
