Today in a ruling the Dutch Court ordered the Dutch government to raise the ambition of greenhouse gas emission cuts to at least 25%. Member of the European Parliament Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy responds. "This historic ruling will have far reaching consequences in the Netherlands, Europe and the rest of the world. The Netherlands has now the legal obligation to step up its climate efforts considerably. This ruling should lead to political leadership in other countries. Climate change is a huge threat, according to the Dutch Court, and governments have the legal obligation to protect its citizens against this threat. This obligation is universal."
