Dutch Politicians Request Numbers On Drug Smuggling From Venezuela

The Dutch political party VVD is concerned about the smuggling of drugs from Venezuela to Curaçao and Aruba. “Do the authorities of Aruba and Curacao have sufficient capacity to adequately fight drug trafficking from Venezuela,” ask VVD MPs Han ten Broeke and André Bosman.

The reason for the request is the news that the Aruban authorities intercepted 125 kilos of cocaine last Monday. The drugs were transported on a Venezuelan motorboat.

The four Venezuelan and two Colombian crew members were arrested, according to a report from the news site El Nacional. Ten Broeke and Bosman also want to know how many drugs are estimated to be trafficked annually from Venezuela to the Leeward Islands.

The Coast Guard publishes overall figures on drug seizures, but gives no specifications for each country and no estimates on the extent of drug smuggling.
