The EU will continue to provide humanitarian assistance for those in need...C.A.R is at a turning point in its history. It can set an example of recovery and stabilisation. It will require good will but above all determination by the leaders in Bangui and all of us in this room. The EU will continue to do its share"

United Nations High Level Event on the Humanitarian Situation in Iraq (New York, 30 September 2015).

"Iraq is not Syria. But it could become Syria. If we do not mobilise enough assistance, today! Not tomorrow! The humanitarian response in Iraq is critically underfunded. The risk of leaving millions of people without water. Without food. Without shelter and health care is real. Very real! This is a matter of saving lives! Even more: this also presents a major threat. Not only for Iraq and its stability. But for the whole region and beyond. Ultimately, for Europe. For the whole world. It is a global threat. Our collective support must get stronger! It is our collective responsibility. It is our moral obligation."
