Dutch MPs Concerned About Situation In Venezuela - Main contents
THE HAGUE - The Dutch Members of Parliament are very concerned about the crisis in the largest neighboring country of the Dutch Kingdom, Venezuela. According to the MPs the Dutch government is underestimating the possible implications of the growing unrest in Venezuela for the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
They had sharp criticism directed at the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders and the Minister of Defense, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. “They are too passive.” Han ten Broeke MP spoke of a situation comparable to North Korea, which requires the highest priority of the government.

The MPs indicated that they are not seeing anything from their government. “A year ago we’ve asked you to work out scenarios with the governments of Aruba and Curaçao on how to deal with a possible flow of refugee or increasing military power in Venezuela,” said Sjoerd Sjoerdsma of the D66 party.
