Sophie in ´t Veld submits questions to Commission about Hungary - Main contents
Last week, the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced the launch of a nation-wide campaign in which Hungarians are requested to give their opinion on the so-called ´plan-Soros´ on migration. Citizens are called upon to fill out a questionnaire, inter alia through televised commercials. This is the third time that Orbán finances a divisive and xenophobe campaign with public money.
D66 is deeply concerned about these actions of the Hungarian government. This is one of the many actions through which Orbán puts the Hungarian rule of law under pressure. In recent years, Orbán already undermined freedom of education, freedom of the press and civil society.
We need to uphold our European values and stand up for the fundamental rights of Hungarian citizens. To this end, MEP Sophie in ´t Veld submitted written parliamentary questions to the European Commission about the ongoing situation in Hungary. Read them here.
