From 2018-05-14 to 2018-05-18, Denmark

The next European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE 2018) will be held in Copenhagehn, Denmark, from 14 - 18 May 2018.

As one of the world’s leading R&D conference combined with an international exhibition, the EUBCE represents the leading platform for the collection, exchange and dissemination of scientific know-how in the field of biomass.

For more than 30 years, it is the interface between science, industry and policy makers, addressing the role of bioenergy at worldwide level.

It is clear that, for the mitigation of climate change and the decarbonisation of energy we need a transformation of the economy, not a marginal change. The replacement of fossil fuels and keeping fossil carbon in the ground in the shortest possible time is absolutely essential. This brings new opportunities and challenges for development, to deliver sustainable bioenergy with cost effective pathways and lower greenhouse gas emissions. There is no doubt that bioenergy has a central and indispensable role to play in this endeavour.

Bioenergy now needs a new impetus to move from sustainability debate into sustainable action based on up to date evidence and experience acquired. The focus is now how to achieve full bioenergy potential and better bridge the gap between research to industrial implementation. It is obvious that it is a question of how biomass can be utilised for replacing fossil fuels for renewable energy, fuels, chemicals and materials production, within the wider bioeconomy and not whether biomass should be used. For this, we need to prioritize the most effective bioenergy pathways that deliver robust GHG reductions that contributes to the climate changes goals. Solutions and strategies are needed for better integration of biomass production into food and feed farming sector and greater integration of bioenergy into the energy sector, as part of a whole broad bio-based economy.

Within this exciting and dynamic field, the conference provides a science-to-science and science-to-industry platform for knowledge exchange and interactions to discuss the latest scientific findings, industrial progress and policy landscape through keynote and plenary presentations as well as moderated poster presentations in specialised thematic sessions.

Responding to suggestions from the scientific community, the EUBCE Conference programme addresses all different subjects of the biomass sector with an updated and refined programme structure the topics addressing the latest challenges, developments and trends for bioenergy. Against this background, the EUBCE programme aims to provide insights into cutting edge research on biomass technologies as well as on the appropriate approaches to deliver sustainable bioenergy.

Be part of the 26th European Biomass Conference and Exhibition and present your results to specialists and decision makers operating at the top end of the biomass and bioenergy sector. Submit your abstract by 6th November 2017.

The EUBCE is supported by European and international organizations such as the European Commission, UNESCO - United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - Natural Sciences Sector, WCRE - the World Council for Renewable Energy, EUBIA - the European Biomass Industry Association, The Central European Initiative, The Global Bioenergy Partnership and other organisations.

The Technical Programme is coordinated by DG Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.

European Commission (EC)

The European Commission is the executive body of the EU and runs its day-to-day business. It is made up of the College of Commissioners, 27 European Commissioners, one for each member state, who are each responsible for one or several policy areas. In addition, the 'Commission' also refers to the entire administrative body that supports the Commissioners, consisting of the Directorates-General and the Services.

The European Commission is the sole EU body capable of proposing new legislation. The Commission also performs an oversight function, monitoring whether European legislation is properly implemented in the member states. In the event of non-compliance, the Commission can coerce a member state to comply by starting a legal procedure at the European Court of Justice.
