In October In 't Veld sent a letter to the Commission about the consequences of the possible reauthorisation of a US foreign communications surveillance law, to be voted in January. Today, right before the final Senate vote, the Commission gives a reply, stating that the US Congress still has to decide whether to extend the law.
The Senate adopted the reauthorisation, which means that the collection of EU citizens' digital communications living outside the US can continue for six more years.
