Today the D66 delegation lodged a complaint with the European Ombudsman about the controversial promotion of Martin Selmayr as secretary-general of the European Commission. After the retirement of the former secretary-general, Alexander Italianer, Mr Selmayr was immediately put forward from deputy secretary-general to secretary-general. The Commission seems to have circumvented the internal rules and maybe even manipulated them. Therefore, D66 has asked the Ombudsman to investigate this quick promotion and if this constitutes maladministration.

On Monday 12 March the issue will be discussed during the plenary session in Strasbourg.
