Access to video: European People’s Party
The European People's Party (EPP) is the biggest of the seven political groups in the current European Parliament.
During the European elections in May, about 200 million Europeans elected MEPs to represent them over the coming five years in the new European Parliament. Those MEPs are organised into groups based on their political affinities. Find out about the priorities of each group in our video series.
With 182 seats, EPP is the largest political group in the ninth legislature of the European Parliament. It is also one of the longest standing groups. It has been represented in the Parliament since the first direct elections in 1979.
This centre-right group has MEPs from across the EU, with the exception of Estonia and the UK. Its members represent 26 EU countries.
Manfred Weber (Germany), who became an MEP in 2004, has been group chair since 2014. The EPP also has 10 vice-chairs.
The group’s goal is to create a more competitive and democratic Europe. Other priorities include migration, trade and jobs.
Five out of 14 vice-presidents of the European Parliament are members of the EPP group, as are eight out of 20 chairs of the parliamentary committees.
