Four Presidents mark ten years of the Lisbon Treaty in House of European History
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Lisbon Treaty, European Parliament President David Sassoli2 is hosting a ceremony in the House of European History on 1 December.
At noon on Sunday, President Sassoli will be joined by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen3, European Council President Charles Michel4 and European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde5 to mark the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. On the same day, a new chapter for Europe begins, as on 1 December the European Commission and its President Ursula von der Leyen will start their mandate, as will the new President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
After a private visit to selected exhibition areas at the House of European History, the four Presidents will each make a short statement at around 12:30 (open to the media). Following this, Presidents Sassoli and Michel will present President von der Leyen with a copy of the Treaty of Lisbon. A detailed programme will follow.
Accreditation and access
Journalists who hold an inter-institutional badge or annual badge delivered by the Parliament can enter the House of European History for the event from 10:00.
Those who do not have a badge need to request short-term accreditation through Parliament’s registration website, by 20:00 on Friday 29 November. Badges can be collected at the entrance of the House of European History from 11:00 on Sunday.

What does the Parliament do?

Legislative
- 2.David Maria Sassoli (1956) is a member of the European Parliament since 14 July 2009 for the "Partito Democratico", which is aligned with the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. Sassoli is elected on behalf of Italy.
- 3.Ursula von der Leyen (1958) is the Commission president on behalf of Germany since December 1st 2019. She was minister for family & youth, later minister for labor & social affairs and finally for defence in Merkel led-governments from 2005 to 2019. Von der Leyen is a member of the German christian democrats (CDU).
- 4.Charles Michel (1975) is vanaf 1 december 2019 vaste voorzitter van de Europese Raad. Van 11 oktober 2014 tot en met 27 november 2019 was hij minister-president van België. Hij was leider van de Waalse liberalen en was eerder minister van Ontwikkelingssamenwerking (2007-2011). Charles Michel, zoon van oud-minister en oud-eurocommissaris Louis Michel, werd in 1999 op 23-jarige leeftijd Kamerlid. Hij was verder minister in de Waalse regering en burgemeester van Waver.
- 5.Christine Lagarde (1956) is sinds 1 november 2019 president van de ECB. Daarvoor was zij van 2011 tot 2019 directeur van het IMF. In Frankrijk diende zij van 2007-2011 als minister van Economische Zaken, financiën en Industrie in het centrumrechtse kabinet-Fillon. In 2005-2007 was zij onderminister voor Buitenlandse Handel. Eerder was zij lange tijd advocaat bij het internationale advocatenkantoor Baker & McKenzie.
