Mission: In view of the upcoming entry into force of Directive [xxx] amending Directive 2008/96/EC on Road Infrastructure Safety Management (COM(2018)0274; 2018/0129(COD)), a number of new features require the Commission to seek the advice and expertise of Member States and other relevant stakeholders, including for the preparation of non-legislative acts and guidance under the Directive as well as regards actions set out in Strategic Action Plan of the Commission’s 3rd Mobility Package (May 2018).

Activity report: The group shall advice the Commission on the implementation of Assess the opportunity to establish common specifications on Road Markings & Road Signs - Preparatory work for providing guidance on the Methodology on road safety assessments & safety ratings; also, assisting on developing an infrastructure-related KPI , as well as on elaborating a framework for Road Classification that better matches speed limit to road design and layout in line with the Safe System approach. - Preparatory work for providing guidance for the design of “forgiving roadsides” and “self-explaining and self-enforcing roads” in the initial audit of the design phase, as well as on quality requirements regarding vulnerable road users. The main group will hold the first plenary meeting in the last quarter of 2019. The group consists of 3 subgroups that meet several times a year and will be dissolved as soon as their mandate is fulfilled.
Selection procedure: Members of the expert group in its Plenary format will be: 1. Member States' authorities (Type D members ), represented by officials responsible for road safety and road infrastructure. 2. Other public entities (Type E members ), in particular for instance authorities, in relation to road safety and road infrastructure, which are a party to the European Economic Area Agreement, at national, regional or local level. 3. Organisations (Type C members ) will be selected via a public call for applications (published soon).

Selection procedure: 252 Explanatory note: Extended deadline : Call for application for selection of members of the sub-groups, 1. “Road markings & road signs”, and 2. “Methodology on road safety assessments & safety ratings”, has been extended to 17 April 2020. Once the selection procedure is completed, members will be published in the Register. Members of the sub-groups to be appointed as a result of the present call shall be: (a) Individuals appointed to represent a common interest shared by stakeholders in one of the areas listed in point (b) below. These members shall not represent an individual stakeholder, but a policy orientation common to different stakeholder organisations (Type B members); (b) Organisations active in the field of road safety policies and measures, road equipment and infrastructures, as well as aspects relating to the interaction of those (Type C members).
