SEC is one of the possible codes assigned to documents from one the most important series of publications issued by the European Commission. The SEC code was used to designate documents up until 2012 and has since been replaced by the JOIN1 code.
SEC-documents were working documents published by the Commission. A fair proportion of SEC-documents were directly linked to legislative proposals and other documents directly related to the legislative proces.

JOIN-documents are joint proposals, communications, reports, white papers and green papers and are formally adopted jointly by the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
