Directorate-General for International Partnerships (INTPA)

This Directorate-General was established on January 3rd 2011 as the DG's of EuropeAid (AIDCO)1 and Development (DEV)2 were merged. Between 2011 and 2014 the DG went by the name of DG Development and Cooperation — EuropeAid (DEVCO). It was renamed DG International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) in 2015 and DG International Partnerships (INTPA) in 2021.

The merged DG is to serve as a central contact for both the making as for the implementation of development policy. INTPA has to become the only interlocutor for the EU Diplomatic Service and for other DG's. As from 2015, some specific tasks related to the EU's neigbourhood policy were transferred to the newly rebranded DG NEAR3 (formerly ELARG4).

Main tasks are:

    advance towards the Sustainable Development Goals and
  • - 
    promote democracy, human rights and the rule of law

    Dit directoraat-generaal was tot 2011 betrokken bij de coördiniatie van buitenlandse hulp namens de Europese Commissie. Het werkte onder meer samen met de Europese buurlanden en Rusland. De Milleniumdoelen van de Verenigde Naties stonden centraal bij de werkzaamheden van de organisatie.

    Dit directoraat-generaal had de taak om de armoede in ontwikkelingslanden te verminderen en uiteindelijk uit te bannen. Ook stimuleerde het duurzame ontwikkeling, democratie, vrede en veiligheid. Het ontwikkelingsbeleid van de EU geeft uitdrukking aan de solidariteit van Europa met arme landen en belichaamt fundamentele waarden als democratie en mensenrechten.

    This directorate-general is responsible for the EU neighbourhood policy and negotiations for enlargement. The EU supports partner countries in both financial means as well as by providing expertise on a wide range of issues. The goal is for the partner countries to undertake democratic reforms, to develop the rule of law and to stimulate economic growth.
     
  • 4. 
    This Directorate-General was responsible for the negotiations on enlargement with candidate member states and maintaining relations with prospective member states. On January 1st 2015 this DG was replaced by DG Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.
