DEN HAAG (PDC i) - The speech delivered by Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga during the 13th Europe Lecture is published online. This year's Europe Lecture was held on the 28th of October in the Hague. Nearly 500 people attended the lecture.
Former president of Latvia Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga spoke together with professor Jonathan Holslag on the subject of 'Peace and Security in Europe'. Alderman in The Hague and former Permanent Representative of the Netherlands to the European Union Tom de Bruijn fulfilled the role of mediator.
Vīķe-Freiberga shared her view and her own experiences related to the turbulent history of Europe. She came to the conclusion that times have never been as good in Europe as at the moment. However, Europe has to actively insure this achieved level of security. The current crisis in the Ukraine is an example of how a simple trade agreement can lead to a violent conflict.
The speech of Vīķe-Freiberga, the speech of Jonathan Holslag, a video-impression and the photos have been published online.
