One of the authors of Parliament’s report into money laundering, tax avoidance and evasion, will lead the work of its new investigation into financial crimes.
Petr Ježek (CZ, ALDE) formerly one of the co-rapporteurs for the committee on Money Laundering, Tax Avoidance and Tax Evasion (PANA) -- which wrapped up its work late last year -- was chosen by acclamation as Chair of Parliament’s new “Special Committee into Financial Crimes, Tax Avoidance and Tax Evasion.”
Roberts Zīle (LV, ECR) and Eva Joly (FR, Greens/ALE) received the backing of the committee, -- informally dubbed TAX3 -- to become the 1st and 2nd Vice-Chairs respectively.
Esther de Lange (NL, EPP) beat fellow contender Matt Carthy (IR, GUE/NGL) in a run-off, to be appointed 3rd Vice-Chair, while Ana Gomes (PT,S&D) also beat Mr Carthy and fellow-nominee Raymond Finch (UK, EFDD) to become 4th Vice-Chair.
The committee -- whose mandate was adopted on 1st March -- will have twelve months to carry out its inquiry and present its report.
