De Europese Commissie1 kent nummers toe aan officiële documenten van de Europese Unie2. De Commissie maakt onderscheid in een aantal typen documenten door middel van het toekennen van verschillende nummerseries. Het onderscheid is gebaseerd op het soort document en/of de instelling van de Unie van wie het document afkomstig is.

Binnen de Europese Unie worden nog heel veel andere nummerseries gebruikt. Iedere instelling heeft één of meerdere sets documenten met ieder een eigen nummering. Die reeksen komen niet overeen met elkaar of met de nummerseries die de Commissie hanteert.

Overzicht typen Commissiedocumenten

  • COM-nummer

    COM is one of the possible codes assigned to documents from one the most important series of publications issued by the European Commission. COM-documents can be legislative proposals, documents relating to legislative processes, communications, reports, recommendations, white papers and green papers.

  • SWD-nummer

    SWD is one of the possible codes assigned to documents from one the most important series of publications issued by the European Commission. SWD-documents are working documents published by the Commission. A fair proportion of SWD-documents is directly linked to legislative proposals and other documents directly related to the legislative proces.

  • JOIN-nummer

    JOIN is one of the possible codes assigned to documents from one the most important series of publications issued by the European Commission. JOIN-documents are joint proposals, communications, reports, white papers and green papers and are formally adopted jointly by the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

  • C-nummer

    Het C-nummer is één van de mogelijke nummerseries die door de Europese Commissie1 toegekend wordt aan officiële documenten van de Europese Unie. Het C-nummer wordt gebruikt voor besluiten van een beperkt en zeer specifiek karakter en een enkele mededeling.

  • SEC-nummer

    SEC is one of the possible codes assigned to documents from one the most important series of publications issued by the European Commission. The SEC code was used to designate documents up until 2012 and has since been replaced by the JOIN3 code.

  • JAI-nummer

    JAI is one of the possible codes assigned to documents from one most important series of publications issued by the European Commission. The JAI document code was used up until 2012 when it was replaced by the JOIN3 designation.

Zowel de Raad van Ministers als het Europees Parlement kennen eigen nummers toe aan documenten die zij van de Commissie ontvangen.

Bij wetgevende voorstellen maken de instellingen van de Europese Unie ook gebruik van een interinstitutioneel nummer4. Dit is één en dezelfde code voor alle instellingen die aan een dossier wordt toegekend op basis van de te volgen besluitvormingsprocedure bij dit dossier.
