Directoraten-generaal en diensten Europese Commissie (DG)
Directoraten-generaal (DG's) zijn de grootste zelfstandige eenheden binnen het ondersteunend apparaat van de Europese Commissie1. De directoraten-generaal zijn onderverdeeld in directoraten, die weer zijn onderverdeeld in administratieve eenheden. Daarnaast zijn er nog een aantal diensten, zoals de Juridische dienst.
De Secretaris-generaal is het hoofd van het Secretariaat-Generaal2, de administratie van de Commissie.
- 1.The European Commission is the executive body of the EU and runs its day-to-day business. It is made up of the College of Commissioners, 27 European Commissioners, one for each member state, who are each responsible for one or several policy areas. In addition, the 'Commission' also refers to the entire administrative body that supports the Commissioners, consisting of the Directorates-General and the Services.
- 2.The Secretariat-General supports the European Commission, the college of Commissioners especially, in its daily work. It does so in various ways; it track legislative proposals submitted to the other EU institutions, aids in monitoring the implementation of EU-legislation in the member-states, help manage contacts between the EU and civil society. It also supports the Commission president in his or her activities as policy-maker.
