Families get close to research - Main contents
‘Be a researcher for one day’ is the title of the event organised last weekend planned in collaboration with the 'EU pavilion' for the EXPO 2015. Marie Skłodowska- Curie fellows engaged with the families in scientific experiments.
The 14 Marie Skłodowska- Curie fellows participating accompanied the children and their families in their exploring of different types of research through experiments and activities: archaeological excavations, DNA extractions from plants and fruits, HIV virus modelling, construction of 3D satellite puzzles, tests on sensory perception and travel in 3D through monuments.
Participants also could observe a giant mosquito 3D mosquito to explain the transmission of the malaria virus. On top of all this, they were also given the opportunity to explore the biodiversity of the Alps and the impacts on plants and animals.
This event was organised by the EC Directorate General for Education and Culture with the support of our colleagues in REA. The activities and research showcased were linked to the themes of the EXPO Milano 2015: "sustainable development, food, biodiversity, cultural heritage". More than 2000 participants, including many families partook in the event.
The MSCA researchers were very enthusiastic, as well as the children and their parents.
